Methods of work and key areas of activity
The main objectives of the ILO - the promotion of socio-economic progress, welfare and working conditions of people, the protection of human rights.
Based on these objectives, the main objectives of the ILO are:
development of coherent policies and programs aimed at addressing the socio-labor issues
development and adoption of international labor standards in the form of conventions and recommendations and monitor their implementation
assistance to member countries in addressing the problems of employment, reducing unemployment, and migration management
protection of human rights (right to work, to association, collective bargaining, protection against forced labor, discrimination, etc.)
combating poverty, improving living standards for workers, the development of social welfare
support training and retraining of employed and unemployed
develop and implement programs to improve working conditions and working environment, health and safety, environmental protection and regeneration
promotion of workers' and employers' organizations in their work together with governments to regulate social and labor relations
develop and implement measures to protect the most vulnerable groups of workers (women, youth, elderly, migrant workers).
In its work, the ILO uses a variety of methods. Of these, there are four basic: 1. development of social partnership of governments, organizations of workers and entrepreneurs (tripartism) 2. development and adoption of international labor standards: conventions and recommendations and monitor their use (standard-setting) 3. assisting countries in addressing the social and labor problems. The ILO is called a technical cooperation 4. research and publications on social and labor issues. Tripartism - the main method of work of the ILO, its distinctive feature of all international organizations. All of the social and labor problems can only be successful as a result of concerted action by governments, workers and entrepreneurs.
